We would like to welcome you to Talley School PTA, for the opportunity to meet other families, have fun and help fundraise to allow all our children to benefit from the unique opportunities Talley School offers.
Why is supporting the PTA and raising funds so important?
The Welsh Government funds schools based on a set figure per pupil registered at the school. The funding pays for staff salaries, buildings and learning materials. For small schools the situation is more challenging, for example, a leaky roof costs the same to repair as for a big school, but the funds to pay for the repair are smaller.
Talley School is in a unique situation, many years ago the PTA agreed to fundraise to pay the cost of all educational visits (school trips). We don’t know of any other school in the UK, let alone Wales or Carmarthenshire where this is the case.
The PTA also provides valuable additional funding which provides educational resources and extras that wouldn’t otherwise be provided. The PTA have recently funded:
- New interactive whiteboard and iPads
- Trips to cinema and beach, pantomime and Dinefwr
- Forest school
- Sports festivals
Trips are an important aspect of school life, broadening and enhancing a child's experience.
Schools are able to ask for voluntary payments towards the cost of trips, a child cannot be left out of a trip if parents choose not to contribute for whatever reason. This often means that all children miss out as a whole trip will be cancelled if there is not enough money to cover the total cost.
At Talley we want all our children to benefit so the parental contributions come by way of PTA fundraising - no family is faced with finding the cost of trips and activities.
For this to continue we need everyone's support.
In order for the PTA to continue supporting the school and the children in this way we need to raise approximately £10,000 a year.
How can I help?
You can help, we just need some of your time and a willingness to muck in.
This year the PTA won the contract to cut the grass in St Michael’s Church yard - this adds over £2000 to our funds. We need to cut and remove the grass three times over the summer months. When this is well supported it can be completed early in the day and is a great opportunity for all families to work together. Refreshments are provided for both parents and children.
We organise shows, parties, quizzes, social events and our Summer Fayre. You can help organise, come along, bring your family and friends and help publicise.
Do you know anyone who can apply to their place of work for matched funding?
We are registered with Easyfundraising.org.uk, as “Talley School PTA”, when you shop online.
Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month, at school at 3:30 - 4:30, during term time.
There is childcare available with Mrs Roberts during the meeting in an adjoining room at no cost.
We do understand that this will not be suitable for everyone, so we will endeavour to hold some evening meetings.
If you wish to receive the PTA minutes please give your email address to Angie, Tanya or Cerys at the school gate. Alternatively, please give it to member of staff and they can pass it on to us. We will only use your email address for PTA information, we will not pass it on to anyone else.
This year the committee members are:
Chairperson: Tanya Prichard
Secretary: Cerys Moir
Treasurer: Angie Hastilow
We are looking for people to lead the organisation of events so if you feel you'd like to volunteer please let us know via our facebook page, our email, firstname.lastname@example.org or at the school gate.
